Now, the first trip you usually just get caught up in. But after that, you get a chance to go back to your flat and grab a few things. Here's what I do:
1) Write a note for Eric and my mom. Moms always slap the Doctor, and that's bad.
2) Pack an overnight bag with deodorant and contact solution. Maybe a change of clothes. At least clean underwear.
3) Running shoes. Good for running from nasty aliens. Always lots of running.
4) MacGyver kit time. In absence of my own sonic screwdriver, I start with a Swiss army knife
5) Fishing line (dental floss okay in a pinch)
6) Small conducting metal ingots (coins okay in a pinch) - good for shorting or creating a circuit.
7) Cell phone. You'd think you wouldn't get coverage out there and then, but you will.
8) Lighter - still on the MacGyver thing. Maybe a flashlight. Flame or light - always tough. Both if I can find 'em quickly.
9) Ballpoint pen. Good for disassembling for tools or writing.
10) Camera. Totally.

...on my mind today.
1) Fixing the four new critical bugs that got assigned to me yesterday. after I'd managed to clear my list. Go figure.
2) Finishing my homework (homework!?) for the week
3) Figuring out why I cannot upload files to Blackboard.
4) Tonight is Wednesday Weekly - hurray!
5) Gotta remember to TiVo the DNC tonight, given that it is Wednesday Weekly
6) DNC watch party tomorrow...
7) Giving a presentation on giving presentations for class. So meta!
8) Am I going to swim practice tomorrow?
9) Wow, Hillary did a really good job last night. I've gone back and forth on this one, but today, it's "Aw, she would have been really great..."
10) Speaker at work this afternoon. Not gonna get much work done. Will have to make that up at some point... wonder when.

...coming up on my calendar.
1) swim practice, 6-7pm
2) homework (homework!??), 7:30pm
3) Kiva translations, Wednesday
4) Kansas City Irish Fest, Friday
5) swim practice, Saturday
6) Williams Fund Tailgate, Saturday
7) KU Football home opener against Florida International!, Saturday
8) Labor day - no plans. Kind of a nice change.
9) swim practice, Tuesday & Thursday
10) First Friday fun
Now what's unusual here? Normally it would never take me a week to get to the next ten items on my calendar. Must be a pretty quiet week. Look at that - no plans on Sunday or Monday. I'm sure that'll change. I have a way of stuffing the gaps.
And a special bonus list, The One Thing That Concerns Me About Barack Obama:
1) He's a White Sox fan. I just don't know if I can vote for someone like that.

Right is wrong
I read once about a model who insured her legs for millions of dollars because they were so critical to her professional life. I wonder what that sort of insurance would cost me....
Biking has really taken a toll on my right leg. Why right? Because you mount and dismount to the left, which means the right leg is the one moving. The bike is to my right as I walk it. The chain and gearing mechanism is on the right.
As I said, my right leg is a mess. I have scabs and even a couple scars all up and down my right shin from the pedal coming around and biting me, or from hitting it while walking my bike. My knee is skinned in three different places from an accident this morning (turns out slick tires aren't called slick for nothing). I have a bruise the size of my hand on my inner thigh with a bump that feels like a tendon running through the middle of it. That's from a slight, ah, misjudgment while mounting. The top of my right thigh has thumbprint-sized bruises all over it.
I have no idea what they're from.

...in other words, I'm done reading. At some point, you're not hip and edgy anymore, you're just an asshole with a blog.
